Retirement Planning

Retirement Planning for Income, Savings and Coverage

Retirement planning connects the income you expect with the spending, healthcare costs and financial goals you want to support. Start with Social Security estimates, workplace retirement accounts, IRAs, savings and existing insurance, then identify any income gap and the funds you need to keep accessible. The Jordan Insurance Agency helps you review retirement-income insurance options and healthcare coverage as part of that picture. We coordinate insurance decisions with your financial and tax professionals so you can compare costs, guarantees, flexibility and beneficiary needs before making changes.

Retirement Planning and Income Questions

How much should I save for retirement?
‍
A common guideline is to replace 70–80% of your pre-retirement income, but your needs depend on lifestyle, health care expenses and other factors. We help calculate your target. For health coverage and income questions, explore
health insurance before Medicare and annuity lifetime income options.

When should I claim Social Security?
Eligible workers can generally start retirement benefits at 62, with a reduction for claiming before full retirement age. Delaying beyond full retirement age can increase monthly benefits, but delayed retirement credits stop at 70; 70 is not the last age at which you may apply. Compare your SSA estimates and household needs, and coordinate Medicare enrollment separately.

What is a Roth conversion?
A Roth conversion moves eligible retirement funds into a Roth IRA. Previously untaxed amounts are generally included in income for the conversion year; after-tax basis can affect the taxable amount. Later Roth IRA withdrawals are tax-free only when the qualified-distribution requirements are met, including a five-year rule and an age or other qualifying condition. Separate early-withdrawal and conversion rules can apply. Review the transaction with a qualified tax professional; a conversion does not guarantee lower lifetime taxes.
