When your Medicare comes from Social Security Disability Insurance, the costs are fairly predictable — and Tennessee gives you a better route to capping the open-ended part than either neighbouring state.
The 2026 numbers
- Part A premium: $0 when your Medicare is based on SSDI
- Part A hospital deductible: $1,736 for each benefit period
- Hospital days 61–90: $434 a day
- Lifetime reserve days 91–150: $868 a day
- Part B premium: $202.90 a month, higher if your income is higher
- Part B annual deductible: $283
- Part B coinsurance: generally 20% of each service
The part that catches people
Under Original Medicare alone, that 20% has no annual cap. It does not stop at any point in the year. For someone managing a serious ongoing condition, that open end is usually the single most important thing to address.
Why Tennessee gives you more room here
Federal law does not require insurers to sell a Medicare Supplement to people under 65. Tennessee law does: any insurer that sells Medigap to people 65 and over must offer the same plans to people under 65 who have Medicare because of a disability or ESRD. That is the broadest rule of the three states The Jordan Insurance Agency serves — North Carolina guarantees Plan A plus D or G, and South Carolina requires nothing of private insurers at all.
Practically, a Tennessee resident under 65 can look at the same standardised plan letters as someone at 65. Medigap plans are standardised by letter, so the basic benefits for a letter are the same between insurers; premiums, underwriting and service still vary. The alternative route to a ceiling is a Medicare Advantage plan, which must set a yearly maximum out-of-pocket for in-network care. Neither is automatically right. More in Medicare before 65 on disability in Tennessee.
Prescription costs
No Medicare drug plan can carry a deductible above $615 in 2026 or $700 in 2027. Once out-of-pocket spending on covered Part D drugs reaches $2,100 in 2026 ($2,400 in 2027), you pay nothing further for covered drugs that year.
If money is tight
Medicare Savings Programs can pay the Part B premium and Extra Help reduces drug costs. The 2026 limits are in help paying for Medicare in Tennessee.
