Independent Health Insurance guidance for individuals, families and self-employed people in Nashville. Bring your doctors, prescriptions, budget and coverage deadline. We help you compare your available choices and schedule the next step.

Why independent matters
The Jordan Insurance Agency is an independent insurance agency. We compare available plans from the insurers we represent, explain the costs and network differences, and help you review the current plan documents before you choose. Billy Jordan leads the agency, supported by the service team. Start by phone, by video or with an appointment at our Nashville office.
A single-company agent
An exclusive agency offers the plans of the insurer it represents. Its product choices and networks are limited to that insurer.

Where to start →The Nashville-specific part
Tennessee uses the federal Marketplace at HealthCare.gov. Your county and ZIP code help determine which plans are available. For Nashville households, comparing a plan means checking the exact doctors, facilities and prescriptions you use, including care outside Davidson County. A familiar insurer name alone does not confirm that a particular network includes your provider.
The situations, one at a time
Use these starting points to prepare your questions. Eligibility and plan availability depend on the current application and plan year.
Self-employed people can compare individual Marketplace coverage alongside other available options. Premium tax credits are based on estimated household income for the coverage year and other eligibility rules. Update the estimate when circumstances change; advance credits are reconciled through the tax return.
Our Marketplace income guide explains the income framework. Bring your expected annual household income and current coverage details to the appointment. The self-employed coverage guide covers additional questions to prepare.
Losing qualifying job-based coverage can open a Special Enrollment Period, generally 60 days before and 60 days after the loss. Apply before your coverage ends when possible and confirm the new plan’s effective date. Marketplace coverage commonly begins on the first day of a month; do not assume it starts immediately.
Bring the date coverage ends, the employer notice and any COBRA information. Our Marketplace enrollment guide explains the process. Pay the first premium by the insurer’s deadline to activate coverage.
Compare premiums after any available tax credit, provider access, prescriptions, deductibles already met and effective dates. COBRA continues the employer plan when you are eligible; an individual plan may have a different network and deductible. Neither choice is automatically better.
Voluntarily dropping COBRA before it runs out generally does not create a Special Enrollment Period. Exhausting COBRA can qualify. Confirm your enrollment opportunity before canceling existing coverage. Review how to compare Marketplace plans before choosing.
If you retire before Medicare eligibility, compare individual coverage, COBRA and any spouse’s employer plan for the bridge period. Your expected household income for the coverage year helps determine Marketplace savings eligibility. A partial year of wages and retirement distributions can affect that estimate.
Coordinate the end of the bridge coverage with the start of Medicare. Our Medicare service page explains how we help with that transition. Bring your retirement date and current benefits information so the timing can be reviewed together.
The end date for coverage through a parent depends on the plan. On a parent’s Marketplace plan, you can generally remain covered through December 31 of the year you turn 26. Employer plans may end dependent coverage earlier, so confirm the actual date with the benefits administrator.
Losing dependent coverage can qualify for a Special Enrollment Period. Compare your employer offer, if any, with individual options and verify effective dates before the old coverage ends. Do not assume a new job’s benefits begin on the first day.
Review each household member’s doctors and medications, the cost of adding dependents to any employer plan, and the household’s expected income. Family members may have different coverage options. An affordable employer offer can affect eligibility for Marketplace premium tax credits.
Compare current benefit summaries rather than monthly premiums alone. Use our Health Insurance basics guide to prepare questions about deductibles, networks and out-of-pocket limits.
Timing and cost
Enrollment timing and household information determine which next steps are available.
Tennessee uses HealthCare.gov. Check its current Open Enrollment dates and coverage start deadlines for the plan year you need. Outside annual Open Enrollment, a qualifying life event may open a Special Enrollment Period; the event, documents and application timing must meet current rules.
For current deadlines, use HealthCare.gov’s enrollment calendar. Losing coverage, a qualifying move, marriage or adding a child can create different enrollment opportunities. We help you review the applicable next step.
Costs depend on the plan, location, covered household members and applicable rating rules. The Marketplace application determines eligibility for premium tax credits and other savings using your household and income information. The agency does not guarantee a premium or tax credit.
Compare the premium, deductible, copays, coinsurance and out-of-pocket maximum together. Confirm provider and prescription coverage for the exact plan. Start with our Health Insurance service page for the broader comparison process.

“Billy has been taking care of my family insurance for 3 years now. It is always painless, professional and makes my family feel cared for. Another agency was going to charge me HUNDREDS more. Grateful I trusted my instincts.”
“Outstanding customer service with super fast response time. Billy has helped me with landlord, renters, auto, and health. When my health carrier pulled out, he notified me a month in advance and found me a new plan. Highly recommend.”

Good to know
Yes. Tennessee uses the federal Health Insurance Marketplace at HealthCare.gov. The available plans and prices shown to you depend on the current plan year, your Tennessee county, and the household information in the application.
The Jordan Insurance Agency helps individuals, families, and self-employed consumers review Health Insurance choices. This Nashville page does not describe employer group Health Insurance.
Compare the monthly premium, deductible, copays, coinsurance, out-of-pocket maximum, provider network, prescription list, referral rules, and service area. Use the current plan documents instead of relying on a plan name alone.
A licensed agent can help you check the current insurer directory for the exact plan. Provider participation can change, so you should also confirm the plan with the provider and carrier before enrollment.
You may qualify for a Special Enrollment Period after certain life events, such as losing eligible coverage, moving, getting married, or adding a dependent. The event, timing, and documents must meet the current Marketplace rules.
Many freelancers, consultants, independent contractors, and business owners without employees use the individual Marketplace. The application asks for an estimate of household income, and the official Marketplace determines any savings eligibility.
No. Premiums, tax credits, other savings, and eligibility depend on the official application, current plan year, household details, and available plans. The Jordan Insurance Agency explains the information but does not control the determination.
