Serving Lancaster, SC · Lancaster County
Turning 65, retiring, or reviewing coverage you already have? Lancaster is the seat of its county and its hospital town, and yes — we’re licensed here in South Carolina. The Jordan Insurance Agency works through your Medicare options in plain English, as your agent and advisor, mostly by phone or video on your schedule.

Why the help matters
Medicare timing is federal and identical everywhere. What is local is what you can choose and who is in the network — and Lancaster sits just over the line in South Carolina, where our agents are licensed. Lancaster is the established heart of Lancaster County, with MUSC Health Lancaster in town, rather than the fast-growing Indian Land panhandle up north. The plan list is the county’s; the doctors you keep and the care you use are what make the decision yours.

Where to start →What being in Lancaster County means
Medicare Advantage and Part D availability is set county by county, and Lancaster is Lancaster County, South Carolina, so your plan list is Lancaster’s — the same one Indian Land chooses from up in the panhandle. What sets the city of Lancaster apart within the county is that it is the seat and the hospital town: MUSC Health Lancaster Medical Center is here, and much of the county’s care runs through it. Cross north into York County around Rock Hill and Fort Mill, or over the state line into Union County, North Carolina, and the list changes. Because availability follows the county you live in, we verify from your actual Lancaster address and check the doctors you keep against it one at a time.
The decisions, one at a time
There is no single “best” path through Medicare. What fits depends on your doctors, your prescriptions, how much you travel, and what you want your costs to look like. Here is how we work through each piece.
Your Initial Enrollment Period generally runs seven months — the three months before your birthday month, your birthday month, and the three after. Two things catch people out. Enrollment is not always automatic: if you’re receiving Social Security benefits at least four months before you turn 65, Medicare generally enrolls you in Part A and Part B for you, and otherwise you usually have to act. And waiting until the birthday month itself can push your start date later than you expected.
Come with the doctors you intend to keep, your prescriptions with doses, and whether you or your spouse are still working. If Medicare itself is still new to you, start with how Medicare works; for timing, see when you can enroll in Medicare.
Whether you can delay Part B without a late-enrollment penalty depends on your specific situation, including whether you have group health coverage based on your own or your spouse’s current employment. Employer size can also affect how Medicare coordinates with that coverage, so we check the details before you decide.
When you retire, losing that coverage generally opens a Special Enrollment Period, and it does not stay open indefinitely. Plan it a month or two before your last day. Our write-up on working past 65 covers how the two fit together.
Three questions come up constantly: when should Part B start, can I delay it while I’m working, and what happens the month employer coverage ends. We push people to ask early because the Part B late enrollment penalty, once it attaches, generally stays with you for as long as you have Part B. It is not a one-time fee.
Twenty minutes before your deadline beats an explanation afterward. If you want the background first, read up on the late enrollment penalty and how Medicare works alongside employer coverage.
Drug coverage is its own decision with its own timing. Going without creditable prescription drug coverage after you are first eligible can bring a late-enrollment penalty of its own, which is why “I don’t take anything right now” is not quite the whole answer.
Bring the actual prescription list, names and doses. Part D is arranged county by county, so Lancaster County’s list applies wherever you fill them. Here is how Part D works.
A supplement works alongside Original Medicare and helps with costs Original Medicare leaves behind. In South Carolina, Medigap plans are standardized by letter, so the basic benefits for a given plan letter are the same from one insurer to the next. Premiums, underwriting, discounts and company service can still differ — which is where the comparison actually happens.
Because a supplement works alongside Original Medicare rather than through a network, it is less sensitive to which system a given doctor belongs to — worth weighing in Lancaster if your care reaches beyond MUSC Health Lancaster toward Rock Hill or across the line into Charlotte. That is a genuine trade-off against cost, not a recommendation. There is also a health-questions issue if you move to a supplement outside your one-time open window. Background: what a Medicare Supplement is.
Medicare Advantage is another way to receive your Medicare-covered benefits, usually built around a network. The plan has to be offered in Lancaster County, and the doctors you want to keep have to participate — verified one physician at a time, never assumed from a brochure.
In Lancaster much of local care runs through MUSC Health Lancaster, which usually makes that check straightforward — but if you also see a specialist up toward Rock Hill or across the state line in Charlotte, that is the detail to confirm before anything is signed, since one plan will not automatically cover every system or every state. Neither Advantage nor a Supplement is automatically right — and if you are still choosing who to work through, here is how to choose a Medicare agent.

Why work with us
Lancaster is over the line, and our agents are licensed here. We start from your Lancaster County doctors and MUSC Health Lancaster, not a North Carolina assumption.
A person with a name and a direct local number — the agent or advisor you talk to the first time is the one you reach the next time, when your prescriptions or your doctors have changed.
Two decades of doing this for families across the Charlotte region and the South Carolina border counties, and a 4.9-star rating across 169 Google reviews.
Enrollment is the easy part. The value shows up in March when a pharmacy says something unexpected and you need a real person.

Good to know
Yes, and our agents are licensed in South Carolina. We work with Medicare clients throughout Lancaster and Lancaster County. We don’t maintain an office in Lancaster — we handle it by phone, by video, and in person at our Charlotte office on Toringdon Way, about 40 minutes north on US-521.
Yes — both are in Lancaster County, and Medicare Advantage and Part D availability is set county by county, so the list is the same. What sets the city of Lancaster apart within the county is that it is the seat and the hospital town, with MUSC Health Lancaster here; the plan that fits still comes down to the doctors you keep.
It depends on the specific option you’re considering, and it’s checked one physician at a time rather than assumed. Bring us the doctors you want to keep — in Lancaster, or up toward Rock Hill or across the line in Charlotte if your care is split — and we’ll verify participation before anything gets signed.
It can, and it is common near the state line, but it has to be checked rather than assumed. Your plan list follows your Lancaster County address, and whether a given plan’s network reaches your North Carolina doctors is exactly what we confirm before anything is signed.
Yes. Losing employer coverage generally opens a Special Enrollment Period with its own clock. Reach out a month or two before your last day rather than after it.
They’re structured differently. A Supplement works alongside Original Medicare and helps with costs it leaves behind. Medicare Advantage is another way to receive your Medicare-covered benefits, usually through a network. Neither is universally better — the right fit depends on your doctors, your prescriptions, your travel, and how you want your costs to feel.
Nothing. Our guidance and our help at enrollment are free to you, and you will not pay more for having a licensed agent in your corner.
People use all three words, and here they lead to the same place. Legally, we are licensed insurance agents. Because we are independent, many people call us a Medicare broker; and because most of what we do is help you think the decision through in plain English, others call us a Medicare advisor. Whichever term you searched, you reach the same licensed, local team — at no cost to you.
