Serving Rock Hill, SC · York County
Turning 65, retiring, or coming off an employer plan? Rock Hill is its own Medicare market — York County, South Carolina rules, and a hospital system of its own. The Jordan Insurance Agency is licensed in South Carolina and walks Rock Hill residents through the decisions in plain English.

Why the help matters
The rules are the same in every state: the same enrollment windows, the same Part B penalty, the same seven-month window around your 65th birthday. What changes is what is actually available where you live, because Medicare Advantage and Part D are arranged county by county and Medigap is regulated state by state. Rock Hill is York County, South Carolina. That is a different starting point from the Charlotte advice that dominates the search results down here, and it is worth getting right the first time.
✕A national 1-800 number
Big 1-800 lines send you to whoever is free, working from a script. Call again and you get someone new. Your doctors, your prescriptions and your history start over every time.
✓The Jordan Insurance Agency
One licensed, local agent learns your situation once. We check the doctors and prescriptions you already have, and compare options from several companies. Next year, you call that same person by name. Our help costs you nothing.
Who this page is for
Your window opens three months before your birthday month. We’ll show you what has to happen inside it and what can wait.
Where to start →Leaving group coverage starts a clock. This is the one people most often plan a month too late.
Where to start →Whether you can delay Part B safely turns on details most people are never told. Worth confirming before you assume.
Where to start →Useful for the concepts, wrong for the specifics. Different state, different county, different list.
Where to start →Coverage changes year to year, and so do your prescriptions and your doctors. An annual look costs you nothing.
Where to start →Adult children handle a lot of these calls. With your parent’s permission you’re welcome to sit in and ask the questions.
Where to start →Why a North Carolina agency can help you
Our office is in Charlotte, so the first question Rock Hill callers ask is whether we can even work with them. We can: The Jordan Insurance Agency is licensed in South Carolina, and has been serving clients across the state line for years. What crossing that line actually changes is the substance, not the paperwork. Medigap is regulated at state level, so South Carolina’s rules apply to you, not North Carolina’s. And Medicare Advantage and Part D are arranged county by county, so your list is York County’s — not Mecklenburg’s, and not the one your friend in Charlotte was choosing from.
The decisions, one at a time
There is no single “best” path through Medicare. What fits depends on your doctors, your prescriptions, how much you travel, and what you want your costs to look like. Here is how we work through each piece.
Your Initial Enrollment Period generally runs seven months — the three months before your birthday month, your birthday month, and the three after. Two things catch people out. Enrollment is not always automatic: if you’re receiving Social Security benefits at least four months before you turn 65, Medicare generally enrolls you in Part A and Part B for you, and otherwise you usually have to act. And waiting until the birthday month itself can push your start date later than you expected.
Come with the doctors you intend to keep, your prescriptions with doses, and whether you or your spouse are still working. More on timing in our guide to when you can enroll in Medicare.
Whether you can delay Part B without a late-enrollment penalty depends on your specific situation, including whether you have group health coverage based on your own or your spouse’s current employment. Employer size can also affect how Medicare coordinates with that coverage, so we check the details before you decide rather than working from a rule of thumb.
Plenty of Rock Hill households have one spouse on a South Carolina employer plan and one commuting north into Charlotte. That does not change the federal rules, but it does mean there are two sets of plan documents to look at rather than one. When you do retire, losing coverage generally opens a Special Enrollment Period — plan it a month or two before your last day. Our write-up on working past 65 covers how the two fit together.
Three questions come up constantly: when should Part B start, can I delay it while I’m working, and what happens the month employer coverage ends. We push people to ask early because the Part B late enrollment penalty, once it attaches, generally stays with you for as long as you have Part B. It is not a one-time fee, and it does not care which state you live in.
Twenty minutes before your deadline beats an explanation afterward. Background: the late enrollment penalty and how Medicare works alongside employer coverage.
Drug coverage is its own decision with its own timing. Going without creditable prescription drug coverage after you are first eligible can bring a late-enrollment penalty of its own, which is why “I don’t take anything right now” is not quite the whole answer.
Bring the actual prescription list, names and doses. Part D is arranged county by county like Advantage, so the York County list is what matters for you. Here is how Part D works.
A supplement works alongside Original Medicare and helps with costs Original Medicare leaves behind. In South Carolina, Medigap plans are standardized by letter, so the basic benefits for a given plan letter are the same from one insurer to the next. Premiums, underwriting, discounts and company service can still differ — which is where the comparison actually happens.
Medigap is where the state line matters most, because these plans are regulated at state level. South Carolina’s rules apply to you. There is also a health-questions issue if you move to a supplement outside your one-time open window, and we will be straight with you about it. Background: what a Medicare Supplement is.
Medicare Advantage is another way to receive your Medicare-covered benefits, usually built around a network. The first question is always whether the doctors you want to keep participate, checked one physician at a time rather than assumed from a brochure.
In Rock Hill that conversation usually begins with Piedmont Medical Center, the 282-bed hospital that has anchored care in York County since 1983. That is a different system from the Atrium and Novant networks most Charlotte-area guidance is written around, which is exactly why Charlotte advice transfers badly down here. If you also see a specialist across the line in Charlotte, say so early. Neither Advantage nor a Supplement is automatically the right answer.

Why work with us
A person with a name and a direct number. The same person next year, when your prescriptions or your doctors have changed.
Not a North Carolina agency guessing across the line. We are licensed here and we work these markets regularly.
York County is its own list, and South Carolina is its own set of Medigap rules. We verify what is actually available to you.
Enrollment is the easy part. The value shows up in March when a pharmacy says something unexpected and you need a real person.
Rock Hill service area
The Jordan Insurance Agency helps Medicare clients throughout Rock Hill and York County, South Carolina. Rock Hill is the largest city in the county and very much its own market rather than a Charlotte suburb — its own hospital system, its own county plan list, and South Carolina’s Medigap rules. Fort Mill and Tega Cay share York County with you; Indian Land, just east, is Lancaster County and a different list again.
Three ways to do this
Many clients choose this. One call, your doctor and prescription list in front of you, and we work through it together.
Useful when an adult child wants to sit in from out of town. We can share a screen and walk through the comparison as we go.
You are welcome at our Charlotte office on Toringdon Way, up I-77 in south Charlotte, if you would rather sit down. Appointments preferred.
The Jordan Insurance Agency does not maintain an office in Rock Hill. Our licensed agents serve Rock Hill Medicare clients by phone, by video, and in person from the Charlotte office above.

Good to know
Yes. The Jordan Insurance Agency is licensed in South Carolina, and we work with Medicare clients throughout Rock Hill and York County. We don’t maintain an office in Rock Hill — we handle it by phone, by video, and in person at our Charlotte office if you’d rather come up.
Not the federal rules — enrollment windows and penalties work the same everywhere. What changes is what’s available and how it’s regulated. Medigap is regulated at state level, so South Carolina’s rules apply to you, and Medicare Advantage and Part D are arranged county by county, so your list is York County’s.
It depends on the specific option, and it’s verified one physician at a time rather than assumed. Bring the doctors you want to keep — including anyone you see across the line in Charlotte — and we’ll check participation before anything is signed.
The concepts do. The specifics often don’t. Charlotte is a different state and a different county, with a different hospital landscape. Use it to understand how Medicare works, then let us check what is actually on your list in York County.
Yes. Retiring after age 65 is time-sensitive, and The Jordan Insurance Agency can review the timing with you. Losing employer coverage generally opens a Special Enrollment Period with its own clock. Reach out a month or two before your last day rather than after it.
They’re structured differently. A Supplement works alongside Original Medicare and helps with costs it leaves behind. Medicare Advantage is another way to receive your Medicare-covered benefits, usually through a network. Neither is universally better — the right fit depends on your doctors, your prescriptions, your travel, and how you want your costs to feel.
The Jordan Insurance Agency does not charge a separate consultation fee for this Medicare plan review. If you enroll through us, an insurance company may compensate the agency.
People use all three words, and here they lead to the same place. Legally, we are licensed insurance agents. Because we are independent, many people call us a Medicare broker; and because most of what we do is help you think the decision through in plain English, others call us a Medicare advisor. Whichever term you searched, you reach the same licensed, local team — at no cost to you.
