Serving Denver, NC · Lincoln County
Turning 65, retiring, or reviewing coverage you already have? Denver sits on Lake Norman’s west shore, where a lot of people use Charlotte-side care but still live in Lincoln County — and Medicare follows the county, not the lake. The Jordan Insurance Agency untangles that with you in plain English, as your agent and advisor, mostly by phone or video.

Why the help matters
Medicare timing is federal and identical everywhere. What is local is what you can choose and who is in the network — and Denver is the spot where those two can pull apart. You live in Lincoln County, but the lake puts Mecklenburg care right across the water, and many Denver households see doctors on the Huntersville and Cornelius side. Your Medicare Advantage and Part D options, though, follow the county you live in. Sorting out which is which is exactly the conversation worth having here.

Big 1-800 lines send you to whoever is free, working from a script. Call again and you get someone new. Your doctors, your prescriptions and your history start over every time.
✓The Jordan Insurance Agency
One licensed, local agent learns your situation once. We check the doctors and prescriptions you already have, and compare options from several companies. Next year, you call that same person by name. Our help costs you nothing.

Where to start →What being in Lincoln County means
Medicare Advantage and Part D availability is set county by county, and Denver is Lincoln County, so your plan list is Lincoln’s — the same one Lincolnton chooses from, over on the inland side. The wrinkle here is care. Atrium Health Lincoln in Lincolnton is the county’s hospital, but plenty of Denver residents cross Lake Norman for the newer Atrium facilities near Huntersville and Cornelius, which are in Mecklenburg. Using a Mecklenburg hospital does not move you into Mecklenburg’s plan list; your options still follow your Lincoln County address. That gap between where you get care and which county sets your choices is the thing we check first.
The decisions, one at a time
There is no single “best” path through Medicare. What fits depends on your doctors, your prescriptions, how much you travel, and what you want your costs to look like. Here is how we work through each piece.
Your Initial Enrollment Period generally runs seven months — the three months before your birthday month, your birthday month, and the three after. Two things catch people out. Enrollment is not always automatic: if you’re receiving Social Security benefits at least four months before you turn 65, Medicare generally enrolls you in Part A and Part B for you, and otherwise you usually have to act. And waiting until the birthday month itself can push your start date later than you expected.
Come with the doctors you intend to keep, your prescriptions with doses, and whether you or your spouse are still working. If Medicare itself is still new to you, start with how Medicare works; for timing, see when you can enroll in Medicare.
Whether you can delay Part B without a late-enrollment penalty depends on your specific situation, including whether you have group health coverage based on your own or your spouse’s current employment. Employer size can also affect how Medicare coordinates with that coverage, so we check the details before you decide.
When you retire, losing that coverage generally opens a Special Enrollment Period, and it does not stay open indefinitely. Plan it a month or two before your last day. Our write-up on working past 65 in North Carolina covers how the two fit together.
Three questions come up constantly: when should Part B start, can I delay it while I’m working, and what happens the month employer coverage ends. We push people to ask early because the Part B late enrollment penalty, once it attaches, generally stays with you for as long as you have Part B. It is not a one-time fee.
Twenty minutes before your deadline beats an explanation afterward. If you want the background first, read up on the late enrollment penalty and how Medicare works alongside employer coverage.
Drug coverage is its own decision with its own timing. Going without creditable prescription drug coverage after you are first eligible can bring a late-enrollment penalty of its own, which is why “I don’t take anything right now” is not quite the whole answer.
Bring the actual prescription list, names and doses. Part D is arranged county by county, so Lincoln County’s list applies wherever you fill them — including the pharmacies you use across the lake. Here is how Part D works.
A supplement works alongside Original Medicare and helps with costs Original Medicare leaves behind. In North Carolina, Medigap plans are standardized by letter, so the basic benefits for a given plan letter are the same from one insurer to the next. Premiums, underwriting, discounts and company service can still differ — which is where the comparison actually happens.
This tends to matter in Denver. Because a supplement works alongside Original Medicare rather than through a network, it is less sensitive to which system — or which county — a given doctor sits in, which some lake households weigh when their care is split between Lincoln County and the Mecklenburg side. That is a real trade-off against cost, not a recommendation. There is also a health-questions issue if you move to a supplement outside your one-time open window. Background: what a Medicare Supplement is.
Medicare Advantage is another way to receive your Medicare-covered benefits, usually built around a network. The plan has to be offered in Lincoln County, and the doctors you want to keep have to participate — verified one physician at a time, never assumed from a brochure.
Denver is the place this gets missed. A plan available to you is a Lincoln County plan, and yet the doctors you actually see may be across the water in Mecklenburg. Whether a given Lincoln County plan’s network reaches those Charlotte-side physicians is precisely what we verify before anything is signed — not assumed because the lake makes it all feel like one place. Neither Advantage nor a Supplement is automatically right — and if you are still deciding who to work through, here is how to choose a Medicare agent.

Why work with us
Denver is Lincoln County even when your care is in Mecklenburg. We start by separating where you get care from which county sets your choices.
A person with a name and a direct local number — the agent or advisor you talk to the first time is the one you reach the next time, when your prescriptions or your doctors have changed.
Two decades of doing this for families across the Charlotte region and the Lake Norman towns, and a 4.9-star rating across 169 Google reviews.
Enrollment is the easy part. The value shows up in March when a pharmacy says something unexpected and you need a real person.
Denver service area
The Jordan Insurance Agency helps Medicare clients throughout Denver and Lincoln County. Lincolnton, Iron Station, Stanley (in Gaston), Westport and the east-Lincoln lake communities are the neighbours here; Lincolnton and Iron Station share Lincoln County with you and therefore share your plan list. Across the lake, Huntersville and Cornelius are Mecklenburg, with a different list even though the drive is short. Because availability follows the county you live in, we verify from your actual address.
Three ways to do this
Many clients choose this. One call, your doctor and prescription list in front of you, and we work through it together.
Useful when an adult child wants to sit in from out of town. We can share a screen and walk through the comparison as we go.
You are welcome at our Charlotte office on Toringdon Way if you would rather sit down face to face. Appointments preferred.
The Jordan Insurance Agency does not maintain an office in Denver. Our licensed agents serve Denver Medicare clients by phone, by video, and in person from the Charlotte office above.

Good to know
Yes. We work with Medicare clients throughout Denver and Lincoln County. We don’t maintain an office in Denver — our licensed agents handle it by phone, by video, and in person at our Charlotte office on Toringdon Way, about 45 minutes around the lake.
No. Your Medicare options follow where you live, not where you get care. If your home is in Denver, you choose from Lincoln County’s plan list even when your doctors are across the lake in Mecklenburg. What we do check is whether a given Lincoln County plan’s network actually reaches those Charlotte-side doctors.
Yes — both are in Lincoln County, and Medicare Advantage and Part D availability is set county by county, so the list is the same. The difference is where care happens: Lincolnton runs on Atrium Health Lincoln, while Denver households often use the Mecklenburg side of the lake.
Sometimes, sometimes not — and that is the whole reason to check rather than assume. We verify each doctor you want to keep against the specific plan you’re considering before anything is signed.
Yes. Losing employer coverage generally opens a Special Enrollment Period with its own clock. Reach out a month or two before your last day rather than after it.
They’re structured differently. A Supplement works alongside Original Medicare and helps with costs it leaves behind. Medicare Advantage is another way to receive your Medicare-covered benefits, usually through a network. Neither is universally better — the right fit depends on your doctors, your prescriptions, your travel, and how you want your costs to feel.
Nothing. Our guidance and our help at enrollment are free to you, and you will not pay more for having a licensed agent in your corner.
People use all three words, and here they lead to the same place. Legally, we are licensed insurance agents. Because we are independent, many people call us a Medicare broker; and because most of what we do is help you think the decision through in plain English, others call us a Medicare advisor. Whichever term you searched, you reach the same licensed, local team — at no cost to you.
