Serving Davidson, NC · Mecklenburg County
Turning 65, retiring, or just checking the coverage you already have? Davidson sits in Mecklenburg County, so your plan list is the same one Charlotte works from — that part is settled. What makes Davidson its own page is where it sits: the walkable, college-town north end of Mecklenburg’s Lake Norman shore, right up against the Iredell County line. The Jordan Insurance Agency settles the structure decision and confirms your doctors before recommending a thing.

Why the help matters
Medicare Advantage and Part D availability is set county by county. Davidson is Mecklenburg — the same county as our Charlotte office, with Cornelius and Huntersville just south — so you draw from the identical list. That quietly removes the question that snags people a few minutes up the road. What is left, in a town people often move to precisely so they can walk to Main Street and leave the car parked, is a structure decision: a Medicare Supplement alongside Original Medicare, or a network-based Advantage plan. Then the plain check of whether your Davidson doctors and the Huntersville hospital fall inside the plan you are weighing. That is where we begin.
A national call center
A large call center may route you to a different agent each time, so your doctors, your prescriptions and your history start over with every call.
The Jordan Insurance Agency
A licensed agent who learns your situation, checks it against the doctors and prescriptions you already have, and is still here next year when something changes.
Who this page is for
Your window opens three months before your birthday month. We’ll show you what has to happen inside it and what can wait.
Where to start →Since your county already settles the plan list, this is the decision that actually moves the needle here. We lay out both sides plainly.
Where to start →A town you can walk and regular trips to see family pull in different directions on networks. Worth naming before you lock in a structure.
Where to start →Leaving group coverage starts a clock, and it is shorter than people expect.
Where to start →Whether you can delay Part B safely turns on details you are rarely told. Worth confirming before you assume.
Where to start →Adult children handle a lot of these calls. With your parent’s permission you’re welcome to sit in and ask the questions.
Where to start →What Davidson shares, and where it ends
Two things sit under the Davidson decision. The first: because you are in Mecklenburg, your list matches Charlotte’s, Cornelius’s and Huntersville’s — the availability question that trips people up does not apply to you. Where it starts to apply is the county line itself, which runs just past downtown; step north into Mooresville and you are in Iredell County, on a different list entirely. Davidson is the last Mecklenburg town before that line, so we verify from your actual address rather than the town name. The second: with availability settled, the work is the network check — whether your doctors and Novant Health Huntersville Medical Center, the hospital just south off Gilead Road that anchors care up here, sit inside the plan you are considering, and whether a Supplement or an Advantage structure suits how you live. We check every doctor one at a time.
The decisions, one at a time
There is no single “best” path through Medicare. What fits depends on your doctors, your prescriptions, how much you travel, and what you want your costs to look like. Here is how we work through each piece.
Your Initial Enrollment Period generally runs seven months — the three months before your birthday month, your birthday month, and the three after. Two things catch people out. Enrollment is not always automatic: if you’re receiving Social Security benefits at least four months before you turn 65, Medicare generally enrolls you in Part A and Part B for you, and otherwise you usually have to act. And waiting until the birthday month itself can push your start date later than you expected.
Come with the doctors you intend to keep, your prescriptions with doses, and whether you or your spouse are still working. In a walkable town that first item does real work — keeping a specific Davidson physician or a Charlotte specialist can steer the whole decision. The timing rules are laid out in our explainer on when you can enroll in Medicare.
Whether you can delay Part B without a late-enrollment penalty depends on your specific situation, including whether you have group health coverage based on your own or your spouse’s current employment. Employer size can also change how Medicare coordinates with that coverage, so we check the details before you decide.
When you retire, losing that coverage generally opens a Special Enrollment Period, and it does not stay open indefinitely. Plan it a month or two before your last day. We walk through how the two overlap in our guide to working past 65 in North Carolina.
Three questions come up again and again: when should Part B start, can I delay it while I’m working, and what happens the month employer coverage ends. We push people to ask early, because the Part B late enrollment penalty, once it attaches, generally stays with you for as long as you have Part B. It is not a one-time fee.
If you want the background first: the Part B late enrollment penalty and how Medicare fits with employer coverage.
Drug coverage is its own decision with its own timing. Going without creditable prescription drug coverage after you are first eligible can bring a late-enrollment penalty of its own, which is why “I don’t take anything right now” is not quite the whole answer.
Part D is arranged county by county, so Davidson draws from Mecklenburg’s list — the same one Charlotte uses — wherever you fill your prescriptions. Bring the actual list, names and doses. Here is a plain rundown of how Part D works.
A supplement works alongside Original Medicare and helps with costs Original Medicare leaves behind. In North Carolina, Medigap plans are standardized by letter, so the basic benefits for a given plan letter are the same from one insurer to the next. Premiums, underwriting, discounts and company service can still differ — which is where the comparison actually happens.
In Davidson this structure earns a real hearing. Because a supplement works alongside Original Medicare rather than through a network, it travels with you — which matters if you spend weeks visiting grandchildren or want a specialist elsewhere without first asking whether they participate. For someone who chose a walkable town but still travels a good deal, that portability is a real trade-off to weigh against cost, not a recommendation. There is also a health-questions issue if you switch to a supplement outside your one-time open window. More on it here: what a Medicare Supplement is.
Medicare Advantage is another way to receive your Medicare-covered benefits, usually built around a network. The plan has to be offered in Mecklenburg County — it is — and the doctors you want to keep have to participate, verified one physician at a time, never assumed from a brochure.
In Davidson the network question is the whole conversation, because availability is already settled. The closest hospital is Novant Health Huntersville Medical Center, a few minutes south off Gilead Road, and many Davidson residents also keep specialists in Charlotte. If your care is split between the north end and the city, say so early rather than finding out in February. We compare the two side by side in our North Carolina buyer’s guide to Advantage and Medigap. Neither Advantage nor a Supplement is automatically right.

Why work with us
Your county already fixes the plan list, so the value is the Medigap-versus-Advantage call and confirming your Davidson doctors — which is where the time goes.
A person with a name and a direct local number — and the same person next year, once your prescriptions or your doctors have shifted.
Close to two decades helping families across the Charlotte area, with a 4.9-star rating across 169 Google reviews.
Signing up is the easy part. The value shows up in March, when a pharmacy says something unexpected and you want a real person to call.
Davidson service area
The Jordan Insurance Agency helps Medicare clients throughout Davidson and north Mecklenburg County. Cornelius and Huntersville just south share Mecklenburg with you, so they share your plan list. Cross north into Mooresville and you are in Iredell County, on a different list; head west across the water toward Denver and you reach Lincoln County. Because availability follows the county at your address, we verify from where you actually live — whether that is downtown near Main Street, out in River Run, or in the neighborhoods around the college.
Three ways to do this
Simple and quick, and it spares you the drive south. One call with your doctor and prescription list in front of you, and we work through it together.
Handy when an adult child wants to join from out of town, or when you would just rather stay in Davidson. We can share a screen and go through the comparison line by line.
You are welcome at our Charlotte office on Toringdon Way, though from Davidson it is a good half-hour-plus south down I-77 to Ballantyne. Appointments preferred.
The Jordan Insurance Agency does not maintain an office in Davidson. Our licensed agents serve Davidson Medicare clients by phone, by video, and in person from the Charlotte office above.

Good to know
Yes. We work with Medicare clients throughout Davidson and north Mecklenburg County. We do not keep an office in Davidson — our licensed agents handle it by phone, by video, and in person at our Charlotte office on Toringdon Way.
Yes. Medicare Advantage and Part D availability is set county by county, and Davidson is Mecklenburg — the same county as our Charlotte office and as Cornelius and Huntersville. So the list itself is settled. The real work is which plan structure fits you and whether your doctors are in the network.
Only at the very edge. Availability follows the county at your address, and the Mecklenburg–Iredell line runs just past downtown Davidson. Step north into Mooresville and you are in Iredell County, on a different list. Because a handful of addresses sit close to that line, we verify from where you actually live rather than the town name.
It depends on the specific option, and it is checked one physician at a time rather than assumed. The closest hospital is Novant Health Huntersville Medical Center, just south off Gilead Road, and some Davidson residents also see specialists in Charlotte. Bring the full list and we verify each one before anything is signed.
It can. A Medicare Supplement works alongside Original Medicare and is not tied to a local network, so it tends to travel more easily, while a Medicare Advantage plan is usually built around one. Neither is universally better — it depends on how you actually use care. We weigh both against your situation.
They’re structured differently. A Supplement works alongside Original Medicare and helps with costs it leaves behind. Medicare Advantage is another way to receive your Medicare-covered benefits, usually through a network. Neither is universally better — the right fit depends on your doctors, your prescriptions, your travel, and how you want your costs to feel.
Nothing. Our guidance and our help at enrollment are free to you, and you will not pay more for having a licensed agent in your corner.
