Serving Mooresville, NC · Iredell County
Turning 65, retiring, or reviewing the coverage you already have? Mooresville is its own Medicare market — Iredell County, not Mecklenburg — and most guidance you find online was written for Charlotte. The Jordan Insurance Agency gives you a licensed, local Medicare agent who works from what is actually available on your side of Lake Norman.

Why the help matters
Medicare rules are federal and identical everywhere: the same seven-month window around your 65th birthday, the same Part B penalty that stays with you once it attaches, and the same Annual Enrollment Period every fall — October 15 to December 7 — when anyone already on Medicare can change plans for the year ahead. What is local is what you can actually choose, because Medicare Advantage and Part D are arranged county by county. Mooresville sits in Iredell County; cross the line south into Davidson or Cornelius and you are in Mecklenburg, with a different list. Advice written for Charlotte describes the wrong county for you.
A national call center
A large call center may route you to a different agent each time, so your doctors, your prescriptions and your history start over with every call.
The Jordan Insurance Agency
A licensed agent who learns your situation, checks it against the doctors and prescriptions you already have, and is still here next year when something changes.
Who this page is for
Your window opens three months before your birthday month. We’ll show you what has to happen inside it and what can wait.
Where to start →Useful for the concepts, wrong for the specifics. Mooresville is a different county from Charlotte, with a different plan list.
Where to start →Leaving group coverage starts a clock. This is the step that gets planned a month too late more than any other.
Where to start →Whether you can delay Part B safely turns on details most people are never told. Worth confirming before you assume.
Where to start →Coverage, prescriptions and doctors change every year. Each fall’s Annual Enrollment Period is your window to review and switch — a yearly look costs you nothing.
Where to start →Adult children handle a lot of these calls. With your parent’s permission you’re welcome to sit in and ask the questions.
Where to start →What makes Mooresville its own market
Two things set Mooresville apart. The first is the county line. Medicare Advantage and Part D availability is set county by county, and the towns around Lake Norman fall into four different counties: Mooresville is Iredell, Davidson and Cornelius are Mecklenburg, Denver is Lincoln, and the western shore reaches into Catawba. Neighbors who share the same water can be choosing from different lists. The second is the care itself: the Mooresville hospital long known as Lake Norman Regional Medical Center was recently acquired by Duke Health and renamed Duke Health Lake Norman Hospital, bringing a new system into a market that Novant and Atrium have long dominated. When systems shift, it is worth checking that the plan you are on still fits the doctors you actually see.
The decisions, one at a time
There is no single “best” path through Medicare. What fits depends on your doctors, your prescriptions, how much you travel, and what you want your costs to look like. Here is how we work through each piece.
Your Initial Enrollment Period generally runs seven months — the three months before your birthday month, your birthday month, and the three after. Two things catch people out. Enrollment is not always automatic: if you’re receiving Social Security benefits at least four months before you turn 65, Medicare generally enrolls you in Part A and Part B for you, and otherwise you usually have to act. And waiting until the birthday month itself can push your start date later than you expected.
Come with the doctors you intend to keep, your prescriptions with doses, and whether you or your spouse are still working. More on timing in our guide to when you can enroll in Medicare.
Whether you can delay Part B without a late-enrollment penalty depends on your specific situation, including whether you have group health coverage based on your own or your spouse’s current employment. Employer size can also affect how Medicare coordinates with that coverage, so we check the details before you decide rather than working from a rule of thumb.
When you retire, losing that coverage generally opens a Special Enrollment Period, and it does not stay open indefinitely. The cleanest handoffs are planned a month or two before your last day. Our write-up on working past 65 in North Carolina covers how the two fit together.
Three questions come up constantly: when should Part B start, can I delay it while I’m working, and what happens the month employer coverage ends. We push people to ask early because the Part B late enrollment penalty, once it attaches, generally stays with you for as long as you have Part B. It is not a one-time fee, and it does not care which county you live in.
Background: the late enrollment penalty and how Medicare works alongside employer coverage.
Drug coverage is its own decision with its own timing. Going without creditable prescription drug coverage after you are first eligible can bring a late-enrollment penalty of its own, which is why “I don’t take anything right now” is not quite the whole answer.
Part D is arranged county by county like Advantage, so this is another place where the Iredell County distinction shows up. Bring the actual prescription list, names and doses. Here is how Part D works.
A supplement works alongside Original Medicare and helps with costs Original Medicare leaves behind. In North Carolina, Medigap plans are standardized by letter, so the basic benefits for a given plan letter are the same from one insurer to the next. Premiums, underwriting, discounts and company service can still differ — which is where the comparison actually happens.
Worth knowing in a market where the systems are shifting: because a supplement works alongside Original Medicare rather than through a network, it is less sensitive to which system your doctors belong to. For someone whose care sits between the new Duke Health hospital in Mooresville and specialists in Charlotte, that is a real consideration rather than a recommendation. There is also a health-questions issue if you move to a supplement outside your one-time open window. Background: what a Medicare Supplement is.
Medicare Advantage is another way to receive your Medicare-covered benefits, usually built around a network. The plan has to be offered in Iredell County, and the doctors you want to keep have to participate — verified one physician at a time.
In Mooresville that conversation now has a moving part. With Duke Health taking over the Lake Norman hospital in a region Novant and Atrium already serve, which systems a given plan includes is exactly the thing to confirm rather than assume — especially if some of your doctors are in Mooresville and others are down in Charlotte. Neither Advantage nor a Supplement is automatically the right answer.

Not as an afterthought to Charlotte. Different county list, its own hospital, its own conversation on this side of the lake.
A person with a name and a direct number. The same person next year, when your prescriptions or your doctors have changed.
Two decades of doing this for families across the Charlotte region, and a 4.9-star rating across 169 Google reviews.
Enrollment is the easy part. The value shows up in March when a pharmacy says something unexpected and you need a real person.
Mooresville service area
The Jordan Insurance Agency helps Medicare clients throughout Mooresville and Iredell County. Troutman and Statesville share Iredell County with you and therefore share your plan list. Cross south into Davidson or Cornelius and you are in Mecklenburg; head west across the water toward Denver and you are in Lincoln County — different lists in each. Because availability follows the county you live in, we verify from your actual address. For local support beyond insurance, the Iredell Council on Aging is a helpful county resource for older residents.
Three ways to do this
Straightforward and quick, and it saves the drive south. One call, your doctor and prescription list in front of you, and we work through it together.
Useful when an adult child wants to sit in from out of town. We can share a screen and walk through the comparison as we go.
You are welcome at our Charlotte office on Toringdon Way if you would rather sit down, though from Mooresville it is a fair drive south. Appointments preferred.

Yes. Medicare Advantage and Part D availability is set county by county, so Iredell County residents choose from Iredell’s list rather than Mecklenburg’s. It is the reason Charlotte-written guidance can describe options that are not on your list at all.
Maybe not. The towns around Lake Norman sit in four different counties — Iredell, Mecklenburg, Lincoln and Catawba — and availability follows the county you live in. Tell us what they chose and we will check whether it is offered at your address.
It can affect which plan fits, rather than which plans you can choose. The hospital formerly known as Lake Norman Regional Medical Center is now Duke Health Lake Norman Hospital, and a network that included one system will not automatically include another. If your care touches the Mooresville hospital and doctors in Charlotte, bring both and we will verify participation before anything is signed.
Yes, and it is one of the more frequent reasons people here call us. Losing employer coverage generally opens a Special Enrollment Period with its own clock. Reach out a month or two before your last day rather than after it.
They’re structured differently. A Supplement works alongside Original Medicare and helps with costs it leaves behind. Medicare Advantage is another way to receive your Medicare-covered benefits, usually through a network. Neither is universally better — the right fit depends on your doctors, your prescriptions, your travel, and how you want your costs to feel.
Nothing. Our guidance and our help at enrollment are free to you, and you will not pay more for having a licensed agent in your corner.
