Serving Stallings, NC · Union County
Turning 65 in Stallings, retiring, or reviewing what you already have? Your errands, your shopping, even the mailing address on your bills may point to Matthews — yet Stallings sits in Union County and Matthews sits in Mecklenburg. The line between them, not the five-minute drive, is what sets your Medicare plan list, and sorting that out is where The Jordan Insurance Agency starts with you.

Why the help matters
Daily life in Stallings runs through Matthews: the same shopping centers, the same post office, often a Matthews mailing address on your own mail. So it is easy to assume your Medicare options match your neighbours a few minutes away. They may not. Medicare Advantage and Part D lists are drawn by the county you live in, and almost all of Stallings is Union County while Matthews is entirely Mecklenburg. A thin edge of Stallings itself reaches into Mecklenburg, which is exactly why the town name is not enough — your specific address is.
A national call center
A large call center may route you to a different agent each time, so your doctors, your prescriptions and your history start over with every call.
The Jordan Insurance Agency
A licensed agent who learns your situation, checks it against the doctors and prescriptions you already have, and is still here next year when something changes.
Who this page is for
Common here, and it changes which county’s Medicare list you actually choose from.
Where to start →Your window opens three months before your birthday month. We’ll show you what has to happen inside it and what can wait.
Where to start →Leaving that group plan starts a clock. Plan it before your last day, not after.
Where to start →Whether you can delay Part B safely turns on details you are rarely told. Worth confirming before you assume.
Where to start →Coverage shifts from year to year, and so do your prescriptions and your doctors. An annual look costs you nothing.
Where to start →Adult children handle a lot of these calls. With your parent’s permission you’re welcome to sit in and ask the questions.
Where to start →Where you live decides your list
Medicare Advantage and Part D availability is set by the county of your home address, not the town on your mail or the plaza where you shop. Stallings sits in Union County, so your list is Union’s — the same list as Indian Trail and Wesley Chapel. Cross the line into Matthews, minutes away, and you are in Mecklenburg, choosing from a different set. Because a small corner of Stallings reaches into Mecklenburg as well, we do not go by the town name at all; we start from your address and confirm the county from there.
The decisions, one at a time
There is no single “best” path through Medicare. What fits depends on your doctors, your prescriptions, how much you travel, and what you want your costs to look like. Here is how we work through each piece.
Your Initial Enrollment Period generally runs seven months — the three months before your birthday month, your birthday month, and the three after. Two things catch people out. Enrollment is not always automatic: if you’re receiving Social Security benefits at least four months before you turn 65, Medicare generally enrolls you in Part A and Part B for you, and otherwise you usually have to act. And waiting until the birthday month itself can push your start date later than you expected.
Come with the doctors you intend to keep, your prescriptions with doses, and whether you or your spouse are still working. Bring your actual home address too — in Stallings that one detail settles which county’s plan list applies. More on timing in our guide to when you can enroll in Medicare.
Whether you can delay Part B without a late-enrollment penalty depends on your specific situation, including whether you have group health coverage based on your own or your spouse’s current employment. Employer size can also affect how Medicare coordinates with that coverage. Where the employer sits — Charlotte, Matthews, or elsewhere — does not change the federal rules, though it does mean the plan documents we read may carry a Mecklenburg employer’s name.
When you retire, losing that coverage generally opens a Special Enrollment Period, and it does not stay open indefinitely. The cleanest handoffs are planned a month or two before the last day. Our write-up on working past 65 in North Carolina covers how the two fit together.
Three questions come up again and again: when should Part B start, can I delay it while I’m working, and what happens the month employer coverage ends. We push people to ask early because the Part B late enrollment penalty, once it attaches, generally stays with you for as long as you have Part B. It is not a one-time fee.
If your employer coverage runs through a Charlotte or Matthews group plan, bring that plan’s documents rather than a summary. Background: the late enrollment penalty and how Medicare works alongside employer coverage.
Drug coverage is its own decision with its own timing. Going without creditable prescription drug coverage after you are first eligible can bring a late-enrollment penalty of its own, which is why “I don’t take anything right now” is not quite the whole answer.
Part D is arranged county by county, so Union County’s list is what applies to you even when you fill your prescriptions at a pharmacy on the Matthews side of the line. Bring the actual list, names and doses. Here is how Part D works.
A supplement works alongside Original Medicare and helps with costs Original Medicare leaves behind. In North Carolina, Medigap plans are standardized by letter, so the basic benefits for a given plan letter are the same from one insurer to the next. Premiums, underwriting, discounts and company service can still differ — which is where the comparison actually happens.
For a Stallings household, the structural point is worth hearing plainly: because a supplement pairs with Original Medicare rather than a network, it does not lean on which county you live in or which system your doctor belongs to. That can matter when your care crosses between Union and Mecklenburg the way daily life here already does — a genuine trade-off to weigh against cost, not a recommendation. There is also a health-questions issue if you move to a supplement outside your one-time open window. Background: what a Medicare Supplement is.
Medicare Advantage is another way to receive your Medicare-covered benefits, usually built around a network. Two things have to line up: the plan has to be offered in the county you live in, and the doctors you want to keep have to participate — checked one physician at a time.
Stallings is where this gets easy to misread. Atrium Health Union West sits right in town off Highway 74, while Novant Health Matthews Medical Center is just across the county line, and residents use both. A plan promoted at a Matthews storefront is built for Mecklenburg, yet your Stallings address is almost certainly choosing from Union County. So we confirm the county first, then check each doctor against the plans actually offered there. We wrote about how network membership drives the choice in how your doctor’s network shapes the decision. Neither Advantage nor a Supplement is automatically right.

Why work with us
Your Stallings address settles whether your list is Union or Mecklenburg — and that comes before anything else we do.
A person with a name and a direct local number. The same person next year, when your prescriptions or your doctors have changed.
Two decades of doing this for families across the Charlotte area, and a 4.9-star rating across 169 Google reviews.
Enrollment is the easy part. The value shows up in March when a pharmacy says something unexpected and you need a real person.
Stallings service area
The Jordan Insurance Agency helps Medicare clients throughout Stallings and the towns around it. Indian Trail, Wesley Chapel and Weddington share Union County with you, so they share your plan list, and Monroe farther east does too. Step across the line into Matthews or Mint Hill and you are in Mecklenburg, where the list changes. Since availability follows the county you live in rather than the town on your mail, we verify from your actual address.
Three ways to do this
Straightforward and quick. One call, your doctor and prescription list in front of you, and we work through it together.
Useful when an adult child wants to sit in from out of town. We can share a screen and walk through the comparison as we go.
You are welcome at our Charlotte office on Toringdon Way, a short drive west toward Ballantyne. Appointments preferred.
The Jordan Insurance Agency does not maintain an office in Stallings. Our licensed agents serve Stallings Medicare clients by phone, by video, and in person from the Charlotte office above.

Good to know
Yes. We work with Medicare clients throughout Stallings and Union County. We don’t maintain an office in Stallings — our licensed agents handle it by phone, by video, and in person at our Charlotte office on Toringdon Way.
Almost certainly Union County. Medicare Advantage and Part D availability follows the county of your home address, not the city printed on your mail, and Stallings sits in Union while Matthews is in Mecklenburg. A small edge of Stallings does reach into Mecklenburg, so we confirm the county from your exact address before looking at any plans.
Usually not. Matthews sits fully in Mecklenburg County and Stallings is almost entirely Union, and Medicare Advantage and Part D availability is set county by county. Two towns that share a shopping center and a post office can still be choosing from different lists.
It can, and it is common around Stallings with Atrium Health Union West in town and Novant Health Matthews just over the line. Which plans are available to you is set by your county; whether a given plan includes each of your doctors is a separate check we do one physician at a time before anything is signed.
A month or two before your last day rather than after it. Losing employer coverage generally opens a Special Enrollment Period with its own clock, and bringing us the employer plan documents early is what makes the handoff clean.
They’re structured differently. A Supplement works alongside Original Medicare and helps with costs it leaves behind. Medicare Advantage is another way to receive your Medicare-covered benefits, usually through a network. Neither is universally better — the right fit depends on your doctors, your prescriptions, your travel, and how you want your costs to feel.
Nothing. Our guidance and our help at enrollment are free to you, and you will not pay more for having a licensed agent in your corner.
