Serving Waxhaw, NC · Union County
Turning 65, retiring, or reviewing what you already have? Waxhaw has no hospital of its own, so care here is spread across several systems in different directions. That makes checking your own doctors the central task, and it is what The Jordan Insurance Agency does before recommending anything.

Why the help matters
In a town built around its own hospital, the Medicare network question is fairly simple. Waxhaw is not that town. There is a freestanding emergency department here, but the hospitals sit ten to twenty-five miles out in different directions and belong to competing systems. So households a street apart can have their care anchored in completely different places. A plan that suits your neighbour can be wrong for you purely on that basis, which is why we start from your list of physicians rather than from a plan.
A national call center
A large call center may route you to a different agent each time, so your doctors, your prescriptions and your history start over with every call.
The Jordan Insurance Agency
A licensed agent who learns your situation, checks it against the doctors and prescriptions you already have, and is still here next year when something changes.
Who this page is for
Common here, and the reason network checking matters more in Waxhaw than in a town with its own hospital.
Where to start →Your window opens three months before your birthday month. We’ll show you what has to happen inside it and what can wait.
Where to start →A lot of Waxhaw households did. Whether that works under a given plan is a question worth settling early.
Where to start →Leaving employer coverage starts a clock, and it is shorter than people expect.
Where to start →Whether you can delay Part B safely turns on details most people are never told. Worth confirming before you assume.
Where to start →Adult children handle a lot of these calls. With your parent’s permission you’re welcome to sit in and ask the questions.
Where to start →Waxhaw’s particular situation
Medicare Advantage and Part D availability is set county by county, and Waxhaw is Union County — the same list as Indian Trail and Monroe, a different one from Mecklenburg just north. What sets Waxhaw apart is not the list but the map. With no hospital inside the town, residents reach outward: to the freestanding emergency department here, to Atrium Health Pineville and Novant Health Matthews in Mecklenburg, and to Atrium Health Union in Monroe. Those are competing systems, so a network that covers one may not cover another. We check every physician on your list individually.
The decisions, one at a time
There is no single “best” path through Medicare. What fits depends on your doctors, your prescriptions, how much you travel, and what you want your costs to look like. Here is how we work through each piece.
Your Initial Enrollment Period generally runs seven months — the three months before your birthday month, your birthday month, and the three after. Two things catch people out. Enrollment is not always automatic: if you’re receiving Social Security benefits at least four months before you turn 65, Medicare generally enrolls you in Part A and Part B for you, and otherwise you usually have to act. And waiting until the birthday month itself can push your start date later than you expected.
Come with the doctors you intend to keep, your prescriptions with doses, and whether you or your spouse are still working. In Waxhaw that first item does more work than usual. More on timing in our guide to when you can enroll in Medicare.
Whether you can delay Part B without a late-enrollment penalty depends on your specific situation, including whether you have group health coverage based on your own or your spouse’s current employment. Employer size can also affect how Medicare coordinates with that coverage, so we check the details before you decide.
When you retire, losing that coverage generally opens a Special Enrollment Period, and it does not stay open indefinitely. Plan it a month or two before your last day. Our write-up on working past 65 in North Carolina covers how the two fit together.
Three questions come up constantly: when should Part B start, can I delay it while I’m working, and what happens the month employer coverage ends. We push people to ask early because the Part B late enrollment penalty, once it attaches, generally stays with you for as long as you have Part B. It is not a one-time fee.
Background if you want it first: the late enrollment penalty and how Medicare works alongside employer coverage.
Drug coverage is its own decision with its own timing. Going without creditable prescription drug coverage after you are first eligible can bring a late-enrollment penalty of its own, which is why “I don’t take anything right now” is not quite the whole answer.
Bring the actual prescription list, names and doses. Part D is arranged county by county, so Union County’s list applies wherever you happen to fill them. Here is how Part D works.
A supplement works alongside Original Medicare and helps with costs Original Medicare leaves behind. In North Carolina, Medigap plans are standardized by letter, so the basic benefits for a given plan letter are the same from one insurer to the next. Premiums, underwriting, discounts and company service can still differ — which is where the comparison actually happens.
Waxhaw is a place where the structural difference deserves a proper hearing. Because a supplement works alongside Original Medicare rather than through a network, the scattered-doctors problem largely goes away with it. That is a genuine trade-off worth weighing against cost, not a recommendation, and we will lay out both sides. There is also a health-questions issue if you move to a supplement outside your one-time open window. Background: what a Medicare Supplement is.
Medicare Advantage is another way to receive your Medicare-covered benefits, usually built around a network. The plan has to be offered in Union County, and the doctors you want to keep have to participate — verified one physician at a time, never assumed from a brochure.
This is where Waxhaw takes more work than most towns. Care here reaches outward in several directions at once, across systems that compete with one another. If your primary care is in one direction and a specialist in another, that is worth saying in the first five minutes rather than discovering afterward. We wrote about how network membership drives the decision in how your doctor’s network shapes the decision. Neither Advantage nor a Supplement is automatically right.

Why work with us
In a town without its own hospital, that is the difference between a plan that works and one that surprises you in February.
A person with a name and a direct local number. The same person next year, when your prescriptions or your doctors have changed.
Two decades of doing this for families across the Charlotte area, and a 4.9-star rating across 169 Google reviews.
Enrollment is the easy part. The value shows up in March when a pharmacy says something unexpected and you need a real person.
Waxhaw service area
The Jordan Insurance Agency helps Medicare clients throughout Waxhaw and Union County. Marvin, Weddington and Wesley Chapel share Union County and therefore your plan list. Cross north into Mecklenburg, toward Pineville or Matthews, and the list changes; head south and west and you approach the South Carolina line, where Medigap is regulated under a different state’s rules. We verify from your actual address.
Three ways to do this
Straightforward and quick. One call, your doctor and prescription list in front of you, and we work through it together.
Useful when an adult child wants to sit in from out of town. We can share a screen and walk through the comparison as we go.
You are welcome at our Charlotte office on Toringdon Way, north of you toward Pineville. Appointments preferred.
The Jordan Insurance Agency does not maintain an office in Waxhaw. Our licensed agents serve Waxhaw Medicare clients by phone, by video, and in person from the Charlotte office above.

Good to know
Yes. We work with Medicare clients throughout Waxhaw and Union County. We don’t maintain an office in Waxhaw — our licensed agents handle it by phone, by video, and in person at our Charlotte office on Toringdon Way.
It affects how carefully the network side has to be checked. With care spread outward across competing systems in different directions, a plan that covers one of your doctors will not automatically cover another. Bring the full list of who you want to keep and we verify each one individually.
You bring us the names and we check participation physician by physician before anything is signed. Living in Union County sets which plans are available to you; where your doctors practise decides whether a given plan actually fits. Both have to line up.
Not inherently, but it is worth settling early rather than assuming. Moving can also change what you are eligible to choose. Bring your current plan documents and your doctor list and we will work out where you stand.
No. Waxhaw is Union County and Pineville is Mecklenburg, and Medicare Advantage and Part D availability is set county by county. They are close together on a map and on different lists.
They’re structured differently. A Supplement works alongside Original Medicare and helps with costs it leaves behind. Medicare Advantage is another way to receive your Medicare-covered benefits, usually through a network. Neither is universally better — the right fit depends on your doctors, your prescriptions, your travel, and how you want your costs to feel.
Nothing. Our guidance and our help at enrollment are free to you, and you will not pay more for having a licensed agent in your corner.
